Speaking of vacation/summer uniform, shorts can be a terrifying affair. There was a loooong period in my teens and 20s when I refused to even wear shorts: I felt they were cheesy and definitely not elegant. But eventually, I learned to embrace the short by taking an ironic approach to them. I started by wearing destroyed, self-made cutoffs with heels and sparkling jewelry. Now I keep it a little less extreme, and have found that American Eagle Midi Shorts are the perfect amount of "oh these old things?" worn-in and have a modest length (aka no butt cheeks hanging out).

Camo Blazer and Leopard Pumps
This is a Casual Friday Remix of the outfit I wore on the first day of school. I had originally imagined regular skinnies with this, but the slouchy boyfriend jeans seem a little more interesting. I topped it off with this camo blazer, and I'm very pleased with the way the boy/girl ratio turned out.
DO try this at home: Both camo and leopard are considered new neutrals, so mixing them together is a fool proof way of mixing prints!

Ombre Jeans with Lace Blazer
These are the ombre jeans and jellies I got at Forever 21 after the dermatologist waaay back in May!
The jacket is from Choies, which is kind of a Chinese Forever 21. They have very trendy pieces from a variety of Chinese brands. I was wary about the fit and quality, but the size guides made it easy to figure out which size to order (this is a Medium - I measured the shoulders of a well fitting blazer I already own). And the quality is much better than expected - this blazer was both delicate and sturdy. The package took a zillion years to come, but it ended up being worth the wait. I'll report back on fit/quality consistency next time I order.

Neon Fair Isle
I love this weird little sweater. It reminds me of how I used to shop and dress - I would scrounge TJ Maxx and the sales racks at Blomingdale's for gorgeous, fabulous, unique pieces. I had a whole wardrobe full of non-basics. It was NOT easy to get myself dressed, but back then, I had a few hours to put together a look. And good lord, did I have fun!
As we grow up, life gets busier and we start to narrow down what works for us, our wardrobes start to get more streamlined. This is a good thing, and helps us cultivate a more sophisticated, polished version of ourselves. But this goofy sweater - one that I almost didn't even try on - always makes me smile and reminds me to let my eclectic flag fly.

7 Layer Dip
Another solution for mega cold weather: a million layers. I wore this for lunch with a dude friend, followed by meeting his lady friend at the Armani store. I had wanted to pair this sweater with the green necklace, and I just kept piling on layers.
Fun fact: one of the shopgirls at Armani assumed these boots were J. Crew! Umm, not exactly...

That's A Wrap
FREEZING OUT! I wore this just to go shopping, but shopping in the city means a lot of outdoor time. My favorite trick for when it's super cold is to wear my cheapest sweater. You heard me! Cheap sweaters are made of cheap, synthetic fabrics which trap in your body heat. This wrap sweater is an old go to for cheap warmth. I had forgotten about these (also cheap!) fur lined boots. Paired with wool socks, these babies kept my feet nice and toasty.
The drawback to all this synthetic heat is that the fabrics don't really breathe once you are inside. Between my plastic layers and the additional 50% off sale items at J. Crew, I was in a bit of a sweat.
(I only tossed on these necklaces for a little pop of color in the pictures, but I took them off to make room for a big scarf once I headed out.)

It's Turtle Time!
WOW, I forgot how much better pictures look when taken outside! Jill had been trying to get me to agree to outdoor pictures for several days - she is made of hearty Greek stock and I am a sad little wimp. I finally agreed on this day when I was pretty bundled up. It was beautifully sunny out and actually not too cold, until the wind hit us! Even she realized we had made a terrible mistake. We sucked it up and took a few shots quickly, and then agreed not to do this again unless the temperature was at least 45 degrees.

Just Gonna Stand There And Watch Me Burn(out)
I was warned that the other couple we had dinner plans with were coming "very casual". That was fine with me, since I spent the first half of this Saturday barfing up the Old Fashioneds I had the night before (NEVER AGAIN.).
I tossed these jeans back on, and immediately grabbed for this favorite burnout sweatshirt that hasn't gotten much play recently. I threw a bunch of sparkly jewelry on - including this ooold Gap necklace with flannel plaid that ties into a bow in the back. The red boots added a pop of color, and kept the jeans from dragging on the soggy ground outside.
I later added this plaid blazer over for additional warmth, which came in very handy in the chilly Blue Line Lounge.
I ordered new laces since the ones that came with were way too long and way too bright. I found these on Amazon.

Boots With The Fur (With The Fur)
Last day off until Back to School!
Here's what I wore just to run some errands. It was COOOLD out, so I wore minimal jewelry. My hair is still a little wet in these pictures; I normally just let it air dry, but today was so chilly I decided to blow dry it a little to speed up the process. Not the most amazing outfit ever, but I figured I'd sneak in a super casual look before it's back to work clothes every day.

Un-Bull-ievable!
New Year's Eve started off pretty normal. The Mr and I had tickets to the afternoon Bulls game, but we woke up and got ready pretty early. Mr suggested that we take my new Canon Rebel out for a spin down in Millennium Park.
I made him stop at Nordstrom Rack first (OF COURSE) to pick up some new gloves. Millennium Park was PACKED, especially around The Bean! We took some pictures and fooled around with the few camera settings we learned to use. Eventually we made our way over to The Faces, and this picture:

Here is what I wore to the game. I bought this Rachel Roy shirt in Philadelphia with my Daffy's gift card (oddly enough). I usually just sleep in it, and I actually struggled a little to put it in an outfit without looking like an angsty teen. I'm as sick of looking at these boots as you are, but knowing that we would be hanging out in the park, naked ankles were NOT an option.
