Easy Caribbean Uniform: Simple Clothes and Bright Accessories

I had planned on taking a ton of outfit pics during my trip to San Juan, but this was pretty much my uniform the entire trip: tattered denim shorts, plain tank top, comfy sandals, and a bunch of bright accessories. A square scarf is the ultimate travel accessory because it folds up tiny in your bag, but can be used for warmth, protection against the sun, emergency hair help, something to sit on, and even as a pool cover up.

Go-to Tuesday: Tank Tops at Target

Tank top season is finally kicking in, and the easiest place to get them is Target! Every time I go for something else, I always throw one or two of these bad boys in my cart.

Festive Plaid Pants and Sequin Star Tee

I had triple booked myself on this Sunday (a Sassy City Chicks event, Elle's epic annual Christmas Soiree, and the MIL's birthday dinner), so a comfortable, versatile, festive look was in order! Low heels and a tee shirt were comfortable, layers were versatile, and the plaid pants and sequins were festive.

Actually, these Joe Fresh plaid pants have become much more versatile that I had thought. I've worn then several times with different looks, and I loved them so much I bought the navy ones too!

I can't find the tee online, but it's from the girl's section at Target. Check in stores.

Leather Tuxedo Leggings and Colorblock Tunic

This great tunic is from Target, but I couldn't find it online. I've reworn this super cozy outfit (minus the heels!) several times.

Black Surplice Dress with Bright Plastic Necklace

This free dress has turned out to be quite useful! As has this crazy necklace that I almost didn't buy. These colors could have easily looked very summery, but the suede shoes and long sleeves place it firmly into the fall.

Gray Surplice Cotton Dress with Teal Wedges

Although I've been super psyched to wear m new fall clothes, the weather has been unseasonably warm. I declared it my mission to go through my closet and wear all of my dresses/skirts that don't work with tights, while bare legs were still an option.

This old, super comfortable Velvet dress finally bit the dust when I washed it after this wear. It was so thread bare that this last wash/dry tore a significant hole in the fabric.  But i think it went out in a blaze of glory, getting a last burst of life with this cool Akira necklace and matching Target wedges.

Get Blazed: Blazer with Sweatpants and Adidas Slides

Here's a slight tweak on the sweatpants look I wore to work for a more casual vibe. I wore this shoe shopping - the slides are perfect for frequent changes.

Also: further evidence that a black blazer can pull together ANYTHING. Here are a few awesome ones in a wide variety of prices.

Sheer Luck

It's hard to tell but this blouse is a very pale peach with cream polka dots, last worn here.  The red jeans are old and are kind of baggy at the ankle, so I french rolled them. You heard me.

Cherchez la Femme

Happy Friday, mes trésors! Something about this map scarf was screaming for a striped tee and the result was très Parisien.

(Clam) Dig it, man!

I posted a menswear-ish take on this shirt yesterday, but this time I decided to play TO the shirt instead of against it.

I knew I wanted to run with the girliness, so I pulled out a bunch of bow jewelry and these floral shoes. I almost added neutral pants, but threw caution to the wind and busted out the bright pink. The shirt/capri/sandal combo ended up looking kind of 50s-ish - I really let that shirt do the talking!

And yes, my hair has been cut and highlighted ("frosted" as my mom likes to say) - not that you can even really tell with all this wind.

Double Vision

I bought this dress on extreme clearance without trying it on, figuring for $10 I could just wear it to bed if it's awful. The fit is not great, but the print is so beautiful, I had to make it work! So, I tossed a long-ish blazer over it (my normal short blazers left an awkward amount of space between the jacket end and the seam above the dress's ruffle).

My little red shoes add to the whimsy.  But when I swap in a serious pair of black booties, the look takes on a nighttime effect. All you need are "office inappropriate" heels and a clutch to take most day looks into night.
