Black Surplice Dress with Bright Plastic Necklace

This free dress has turned out to be quite useful! As has this crazy necklace that I almost didn't buy. These colors could have easily looked very summery, but the suede shoes and long sleeves place it firmly into the fall.

Gray Surplice Cotton Dress with Teal Wedges

Although I've been super psyched to wear m new fall clothes, the weather has been unseasonably warm. I declared it my mission to go through my closet and wear all of my dresses/skirts that don't work with tights, while bare legs were still an option.

This old, super comfortable Velvet dress finally bit the dust when I washed it after this wear. It was so thread bare that this last wash/dry tore a significant hole in the fabric.  But i think it went out in a blaze of glory, getting a last burst of life with this cool Akira necklace and matching Target wedges.

TEAL MAGNOLIAS

I finally got a trim! I'm having a bit of first time styling issues with these pics...

I was excited to bust out these new fierce loafers. The ground was still pretty gross outside, but the fabric on these shoes was quite water friendly. It was NOT, however, foot friendly! I got a nasty blister near my heel about halfway through the day and had to bust out the chanclas.

As for the rest of the outfit, I kept it pretty simple with a nudge towards collegiate preppy to match the underlying vibe of the shoes. A chunky bracelet ties the studs back in.

Dominant Jean

Here is an outfit that started off pretty boring, and escalated quickly. I wanted to wear this new denim shirt with some color, so I pulled out these green/teal pants. Then I remembered I had this necklace, which jazzed the whole look up. I had planned on wearing the shirt buttoned all the way up with the necklace in the collar like a bow tie, but then I found out it we were taking the staff picture that morning, and decided the Ironic Arsenio Hall look wouldn't exactly stand the test of time. I wore the shirt and necklace "the normal way" and tossed a black blazer over it to make the whole look read more "professional".

I tried a few bracelets, but settled instead on this neutral-but-killer stack of rings. And I was tempted to reach for my usual plain black flats, but I liked how the green picked up a little of the glitter in these shoes (plus, the glitter filled in as a quasi-print in an otherwise collection of solids).

Of A Different Stripe

Gotta love Casual Friday. Here's another cute little soft blazer I picked up at Target this week. I threw it on with a very casual t-shirt (it even has that baseball hem on the bottom), and one of the very few pair of jeans I have hemmed for flat shoes.

The wood necklace helps the tan shoes make sense, and the pin holds down a rebellious lapel (and very slightly references the trees in the t-shirt).

Just Teal With It

Here's a cute Professional Business Lady ensemble. It's essentially a suit with a silk top and pumps, but actually way more fun thanks to bright colors and comfy fabrics.

I've only worn the silk top a few times in the past year or so that I've owned it. The pattern and colors are GORGEOUS, but the fit isn't amazing (even with the little belt to help customize it). It finally took me until this outfit to realize I ought to just wear it under a much more flattering jacket (duh). You still get to see the blouse, but the jacket provides the silhouette.

And even though the jacket looks pretty structured, it feels like wearing a sweatshirt!

The shoes are also a yummy color, and pretty comfy. I didn't last a full school day in them, but they would be mega comfortable for an evening out. The wedge is not too high, and the sole is flexible and squishy.

Fun fact about the blouse: I spotted Ginnifer Goodwin wearing this exact blouse several times on Big Love! She always wore it under something, too, and removed the pink sash.

Shiny Happy People

Here are a few iPhone shots the Mr. took before we headed out in Saturday night.  I was WAY overdressed for Wrigleyville (oopsie), but whatever.

And, of course, a closeup on the jewels. I got dressed in kind of a rush, and if I'd had time to analyze, I probably wouldnt've worn the shiny top with the shiny pants. But I countered it with making the rest of the pieces pretty matte (suede shoes, feather earrings, boucle jacket [not shown]). And who would've thought gold jeans could be so versatile?!!??! So far I've made them work for a boho look, a preppy look, and now this kind of disco look.  Maybe I should do a montage of How I Wear Gold Pants.
