Grunge?

I know, I KNOW. "If you are old enough to have worn it the first time, you're too old to wear it when it's retro." But come on, I was like 12 when grunge was big, and I was more of the pink plastic skirt type then anyway.

This is a fairly subtle nod to grunge with the color scheme, the chunky sweater, and the bike chain necklace, but I still snuck some glitter in anyway!

Hot tip: This was from when it was still negative one million degrees out, and even a sliver of naked ankle was excruciating. I just wore some thick wool socks than semi-blended into the pant and called it a day.

Style Stalking: Rumpled Plaid with Bows & Sequins

This post, called Fancy Footwear, from Bows & Sequins originally caught my eye because that's the sold out J Crew shirt I spent forever tracking down on eBay last winter! But what seemed interesting to me was that the shirt was clearly not ironed. I thought maybe Jessica was slipping up her game, but then I saw a few other posts with similarly rumpled shirts. The wrinkles are a styling choice for a laid back look!

Green Cashmere and Glitter Boots

I've worn this green cashmere sweater a million times this year already! Here's a simple look.

Black Shift with Buffalo Check and Glitter Boots

Another naked leg post from the pre-wedding archives. This H&M black shift has been a serious wardrobe workhorse! I feel like I can put ANYTHING with it and it still feels professional. Stay tuned for more looks incorporating tights...

Black One Shoulder Cocktail Dress with Pink Glitter Shoes

This was the second look I changed into for the engagement shoot. Don't you feel like when you NEED a party dress, you can never find one!? I found this one randomly at Marshall's one summer, and just bought it for no specific reason. I ended up wearing it on at least 3 other occasions that I can think of. So that's been my new strategy. If I find a great party dress that I love (at a reasonable price!), I just buy it and save it for the next time I need one.

And how about these pink glitter shoes! These are what my best gay refers to as S&M shoes (Stand and Model). They are wildy uncomfortable, but too gorgeous to get rid of!

WHEN SKIES ARE GREY: Bonus Post

My SD card is temporarily lost, so the rest of my rainy weather week pics are unavailable. HOWEVER, here is an outfit from the archives that just happens to have grey in it.

I'm posing with our friend Vicci's wallet because as she came back from lunch, she caught us snapping pics and saw that her glitter wallet matched the back of my boots. Goofballs.

LIPSTICK ON YOUR COLLAR: DAY 4

Yesterday we talked about how a blouse can dress up an outfit, but it can also dress one down. Here, I'm wearing (basically) a suit, which is way more dressed up than my job requires. But the chambray shirt and and booties give the look a more casual vibe.

ALSO: Collars always go INSIDE the lapels. Unless you are serving up some 70s realness for a costume party. Always.

*Pictures are a little rough. The mister graciously filled in as photographer and I didn't give much direction.
Some teacher I am!

PARDON THE INTERRUPTION

It's Spring Break! The mister and I will be heading off to Nashville, so there will be a bit of a break in our regular programming ("What regular programming? You never blog consistently!" -You).

In the meantime, here are a few extra pics from the Nordstrom event that were hiding on Jill's camera.

More info on our outfits here and here.

IMG_1550During our marathon shopping sesh after, Jill found this purse at Charming Charlie that matched my nails. I acheived this look with a base layer of Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine in Spark (which looks purple in the bottle but dries navy) and about eight layers of Milani Nail Lacquer in Gems. Yes, it took forever to remove!

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Here's what I wore out for New Year's Eve. We had only planned on going out to dinner with our fave buddy, so I hadn't put much thought into my outfit. I tried on several combos with varying degrees of sparkle, and would up with this. I basically piled of a ton of shimmery stuff and called it a day! NYE (and maybe Halloween...) is the only time you can pile on the sparkles like this, and I took full advantage.

The reason why this insanity works is the simple pants and solid blazer give the eye a safe place to rest. The straight hair also calmed down the whole vibe - my usual messy waves would've added to the noise.

The only new item here is the jacket (gift from Mom!). This is yet another example of how a blazer is the easiest way to smarten up a look. I look like a crazy teenager with the hoodie, but the (very inexpensive, btw) blazer gives this a finished, polished vibe.

Un-Bull-ievable!

New Year's Eve started off pretty normal. The Mr and I had tickets to the afternoon Bulls game, but we woke up and got ready pretty early. Mr suggested that we take my new Canon Rebel out for a spin down in Millennium Park.

I made him stop at Nordstrom Rack first (OF COURSE) to pick up some new gloves. Millennium Park was PACKED, especially around The Bean! We took some pictures and fooled around with the few camera settings we learned to use. Eventually we made our way over to The Faces, and this picture:

quickly became this picture:

!!!!!!!!

But I digress :)

Here is what I wore to the game. I bought this Rachel Roy shirt in Philadelphia with my Daffy's gift card (oddly enough). I usually just sleep in it, and I actually struggled a little to put it in an outfit without looking like an angsty teen. I'm as sick of looking at these boots as you are, but knowing that we would be hanging out in the park, naked ankles were NOT an option.

And here's an extra ring shot, just because :)
