Tuxedo Day: A Lady Tuxedo Involving Tons of Rhinestones

My mister and one of his co-workers were working on a huge deal. They decided, if they closed said deal, they would celebrate by renting tuxedos and wearing them to dinner and the casino. Well, the deal went through and I was invited along for Tuxedo Day! At first, I was trying to decide which dress to wear, but then it dawned on me that I too should don a tuxedo. I just happen to have these Billy Blues rhinestone tuxedo pants hanging in my closet. I tried a few different white ruffly shirts before settling on this Forever 21 vest (with some modesty pinning going on near the cleavage!).

(Clam) Dig it, man!

I posted a menswear-ish take on this shirt yesterday, but this time I decided to play TO the shirt instead of against it.

I knew I wanted to run with the girliness, so I pulled out a bunch of bow jewelry and these floral shoes. I almost added neutral pants, but threw caution to the wind and busted out the bright pink. The shirt/capri/sandal combo ended up looking kind of 50s-ish - I really let that shirt do the talking!

And yes, my hair has been cut and highlighted ("frosted" as my mom likes to say) - not that you can even really tell with all this wind.

What A Rip Off!

After a bit of a hiatus (wedding planning is exhausting, ya'll!), I thought I'd give you a twofer with this Day to Night Quick Change.

The StyleChicago events are always on a Friday, which always leaves me scrambling to change in between. This time, I decided that I liked my outfit so much, that I'd just swap a few key accessories to make it work. I knew I had to trade the flats for some heels, but I also decided the pink preppy belt looked too "day time".

And here's me super psyched about leaning on the runway.

GIRL ON FIRE

With so many neutral outfits lately, I felt like it was time for some color. And BOY did I overcompensate. If you had described this outfit to me, I would've said, "Ooo, girl, no." But for some reason this just works. Treat your wardrobe like I treat Forever 21: Just try it on. I come up with my fair share of ooo-girl-nos, but I also sometimes catch a wild card like this one.

Side note: I'm not serving up camel toe; these pants stretch out SO MUCH by the end of the day that when I hike them up for pictures, I sometimes get *unfortunate* folding from excess fabric.

Ruffle My Feathers

Here's a flashback that was hiding on Jill's computer. You can tell it's old because I'm missing an important piece of jewelry. My sister gave me this sweater for my birthday several years ago, only to find out that I had already bought the exact same one for myself! I added a pop of red shoe to the otherwise neutral outfit, and then snuck in the tiny red bracelet to help them make sense.

Candy Striper

My curls here are the result of "No Heat Curls", which I first discovered at Tulle & Trinkets. She did hers a little different because she just wanted soft waves. I put my mostly dry hair pretty tightly around a headband and slept in it over night. I was surprised how well it held up, and how non-uncomfortable it was to sleep on!

The curls came out tighter than I intended in the front, and a lot looser in the back, but I think the end result actually looks pretty natural. They certainly don't look like curling iron curls, and the inconsistency/frizz mimics how naturally curly hair acts.

I'll probably try it again, but with a thicker headband next time.

P.S. This is a classic Shop Your Own Closet moment here. You've seen all these pieces before, just not paired together.
