Tuxedo Day: A Lady Tuxedo Involving Tons of Rhinestones

My mister and one of his co-workers were working on a huge deal. They decided, if they closed said deal, they would celebrate by renting tuxedos and wearing them to dinner and the casino. Well, the deal went through and I was invited along for Tuxedo Day! At first, I was trying to decide which dress to wear, but then it dawned on me that I too should don a tuxedo. I just happen to have these Billy Blues rhinestone tuxedo pants hanging in my closet. I tried a few different white ruffly shirts before settling on this Forever 21 vest (with some modesty pinning going on near the cleavage!).

Cherchez la Femme

Happy Friday, mes trésors! Something about this map scarf was screaming for a striped tee and the result was très Parisien.

Beyond the Pale

I knew I'd get more use out of these pants once the weather got warmer!

I kept the palate very pale and neutral, but if you can see, there are three major prints going on here (trifecta!). The pants have an abstract animal print, the shoes are snakeskin, and the blazer (which is at least a decade old and part of a pant suit) has very thin peach and grey stripes. I made sure to tie the black of the shoes back in with a dalmatian-y bracelet.

Double Vision

I bought this dress on extreme clearance without trying it on, figuring for $10 I could just wear it to bed if it's awful. The fit is not great, but the print is so beautiful, I had to make it work! So, I tossed a long-ish blazer over it (my normal short blazers left an awkward amount of space between the jacket end and the seam above the dress's ruffle).

My little red shoes add to the whimsy.  But when I swap in a serious pair of black booties, the look takes on a nighttime effect. All you need are "office inappropriate" heels and a clutch to take most day looks into night.

NECK PARTY: DAY 1

I have a few girl friends who text me pictures of outfits for my opinion, and Ellery's Surprise Date Night look inspired this week's theme: Necklace layering. She also gave me the term "Neck Party" - which I'm sure you can decipher is the necklace version of the Arm Party.

The first necklace I put on has built in layers, but I added this cute little arrow necklace for an extra bit of interest. A bunch of chains is one thing, but adding a charm gives it some personality.

Fun fact: this skirt used to have a few inches of tulle hanging longer, but I cut it to be even with the rest of the skirt. MUCH better!

LIPSTICK ON YOUR COLLAR: DAY 5

This is from a few weeks ago (hence the snow!), but it's another excellent example of how a collared shirt can legitimize anything. A leather shirt and leggings is not what most people consider professional - much less suitable for wearing around children. But the white shirt makes the leather top read more like a black sweater and the whole look doesn't seem that crazy anymore.

SOLID INVESTMENT

This look started as a copycat: one of the other teachers wore a denim shirt with black jeans and a grey cardigan and it was super cute. I started with this denim shirt and my black "magic" pants, but then went rogue and added the fur vest and boots. The neon bracelet adds a pop of color.

BABY ONE MORE TIME

This skirt was probably too short for school, but that's the beauty of the opaque tight. ALL of my skin is totally covered up, so it's not nearly as scandalous as it could have been. Our school librarian gave this look a hilarious title - and told me to feel free to use it on my blog - but now I can't remember! Something about a school girl gone bad, but way better than that. Let's just pretend I remembered and it was awesome.

JUST LIKE A TATTOO

This jacket didn't photograph that well. The fit is perfect in person, and it has this adorable little peplum in the back.

I like how the tattoo-reminiscent jewelry plays off of the classic (with a twist!) tweed jacket. And the snow boots were just a flat out necessity!
